Assembling the kit yourself

Although we recommend that we or a local builder install your Post & Beam structure for you, the SolidLox system does enable you to install it yourself with the assistance of a qualified Carpenter or Builder with Timber Frame knowledge.

Can I have this model tailored to my own requirements

Yes you Can. We can provide a Custom quotation for you - but please see our pricing guide page to get an idea of the increased costs involved to assess whether a custom/bespoke design falls within your budget before asking for a quotation.

Can I use my own Roof Covering ?

Yes you Can. SolidLox structures are designed and engineered to accept most types of Roof Covering, Slates, Pantiles, etc.. For any of the more heavier materials, such as concrete tiles, you will need to check with us as special engineering may be required. Please note however, that we do not fit roof coverings not supplied by ourselves.

Can I Have the stairs on the other side ?

Yes. The location of stairs this design is shown purely for illustrative purposes. You can have them in whichever location you prefer. Just let us know when you are placing your order.

What foundations will I need ?

Most people choose to lay a concrete slab, usually at least 150mm (6”) thick and with some steel reinforcing mesh in this however Foundation design will depend on Site conditions and Ground levels and therefore will need to be assesed by the builder.

You will require Building Regulations approval for this Car Port because the useable floor space exceeds 30m2

Insulation & Building Regulation Compliance

When opting for insulation in our room in roof Garages, Carports and similar, our specification is intended for incidental and storage use, with no permanently installed heating system. This should be made clear on any Building Regulations application for the structure otherwise you may be asked for possibly slightly “over-the-top” standards for such ancillary buildings like a ventilated space and breather membrane behind external cladding and a Vapour Control Layer on the inside face. The Local Authority will often also require a much higher fee for assessing the application! (approx £500 - £600 as opposed to approx £200 for an unheated, non-habitable space)

This is the same construction detail as would be applied to e.g. a house extension, and in most cases is unnecessary for ancillary buildings, since they tend not to be permanently and continuously inhabited where there is limited condensation risk. However, we can provide this if required, but it can add significantly to the cost.

Please speak to us if you require an enhanced specification that is compliant with Building Regulations standards for a heated, fully habitable space.
